Well it's my first critique ! XD I love the work overall here's the breakdown of what bothers me and what I find cool.
Pros: - Loving the drawing, face is nice, body is done well although I think you could have made her hips a tiny bit bigger. -The shaded clothes vs unshaded skin is cool! -Nice use of positive and negative space, especially important in such a high contrast black and white work.
Cons: -Smudge is EVIL. I don't know if you used it, but it looks like it and it's BAD! XD Her clothes are too smudgy it reduces the impact the picture could have. In fact I think that plain black would have worked better. But if you want to keep the airbrushed feel (as I said the unshaded vs shaded does look cool) I would advice to add some sharp shadows mixed in it. The airbrush/hard shadows combo will give a much better and polished looking picture, you can also put the hard shadows on a separate layer lock it and then airbrush them it gives a nice effect : ) And even while working only with airbrushes it's important to play with airbrush sizes mixing very big zones with almost sharp looking shadows. - Her hands could have used more work, they lack some definition and look more like forms then hands. - The folding on the dress is unclear especially as to why there are no folding on our left side. If it's because she's lifting a lower part of her dress it should be made clearer.
And that's it, the cons part is bigger only because it takes longer to explain what I find wrong then to explain what works ^^' Overall as I already said I love the picture, in fact, I don't critique pictures I don't like ^^
Thanks for taking the time to critique this work! I agree completely with the comments on the suck hands and the lazy dress folds. I did not use any smudge on this piece, it was all just lazy airbrushing. Truth be told I was just trying to rush this one out that day, and adding the shading was just an afterthought, so I gave it maybe 15 minutes maximum. I do admit my airbrushing techniques have some of the flaws you pointed out, but I am working on it steadily. For example the 3 Years pic (the beach picture I did recently) is also all airbrushed. I'll keep all of your advice in mind in the future, since, after all, I really respect you for your coloring skills so this advice means a bunch to me :3
